REHEARSALS

All rehearsals are on Thursdays,
7-00 to 9-00 at Chafyn Grove School. The Autumn term started on 4th September.



BABES & BALLADS

Rehearsals restarted on Tuesday 9th September at the Cathedral School from 7.15-8.45pm and will take place every Tuesday during term time. They have a website at www.babesandballads.com

This is a thriving choir with a membership of about 180.
Come and join us. There is no audition.

This year as a trial the Christmas Party will be held on the Saturday 5.45pm and 7.00pm BETWEEN the afternoon rehearsal and the evening concert. This will be a bring and share tea. All is not lost you will still get your glass of wine to raise a toast during the concert interval! Please see Rose Hawkins or Annie Riddle during choir meetings and sign yourself up to bring a plate of food, or help set up or help clear away. You can change into concert clothes at the centre. CHRISTMAS CONCERT DRESS CODE The choir dress code, which has been chosen by Colin, our temporary MD (a break with tradition!), will be. Men: White shirt, black trousers, single colour bow tie optional. Ladies: Full length black skirt or trousers - plain black long sleeved blouse/shirt (no decoration or sparkly bits!). Shortish PLAIN coloured long scarf (not a square one). The scarf should sit around the neck loose, so not a long scarf that has to be wrapped around the neck several times!

REHEARSAL All rehearsals will be at Chafyn Grove unless announced otherwise.

NEW MUSICAL DIRECTOR Jeremy Backhouse is the new Musical Director and will start in January. For details of his career see http://www.vivacechorus.org/main/about_vivace.php?content=jeremy_backhouse The rehearsal night will remain Thursday.

AUTUMN TERM MUSIC You need to download some music from www.cpdl.org You should search by composer and then by title and download the PDF files.

There are 3 pieces: William Crotch, "Low! Star-led Chiefs"; H. Berlioz, "The Shepherds Farewell"; Oliver Barton, "A Wassail to Keep out the Cold".

In addition you will need to download two other files of scores from the SCC website. You can do this by clicking here and clicking here.

If you downloaded music on Friday 5 September you should also now click on the second download link above as this holds the Bach Cantata 140 item that was previously available on the CPDL website. I hope that's clear!

FEZEKA FILM Ceil Productions are making a film about the Fezeka School and their visit to Salisbury. You can see details of the web site they have established by going to the Fezeka website.

COME & SING There will be a Come & Sing event in St Martin's church on Saturday 15 November, starting at 7-00 pm. See below for details or to download a copy of the flyer click

SALISBURY CHILCOTT PROJECT Bob Chilcott will be visiting the SCC on Thursday 23 April. He will explain what he intended when writing the Salisbury Vespers and answer any questions people may have.

The concert will be in the Cathedral, starting at 7-30 pm on Saturday 23 May. Tickets will be marketed by the Salisbury International Arts Festival. There will be extra rehearsals on Saturday 16 May 11 am to noon in the Cathedral; Tuesday 19 May 7-30 pm till 9-30 pm with SMS at South Wilts Grammar School; Friday 22 May, 7-30 pm till 9-30 pm in the Cathedral; Saturday 23 May 1 pm till 2 pm in the Cathedral and again from 2 pm till 4-45 pm. Please put these dates in your diary.

SOME DATES FOR THE DIARY

COME & SING In St Martin's Church on Saturday 15 November 7 pm to 10-30 pm. In aid of Salisbury Chilcott Project.
Tickets £10 from the Musicroom (was Percy Prior). The programme will include Vivaldi Gloria, Faure Requiem and Faure Cantique de Jean Racine.
HIGH POST GOLF CLUB In 2008 the annual Christmas Concert will be on 17 December. Details to follow.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT This will be at Wilton on Saturday 13 December.
CHILCOTT CONCERT This will take place as the opening concert of the 2009 Salisbury International Arts Festival on Saturday 23 May 2009. See above for the additional rehearsal schedule and the date of Bob Chilcott's visit to ther SCC.
